Herbal Remedies

Chinese Herbology is the art of combining different herbal substances to restore health and strengthen the body. Herbal formulation is a major component of Chinese Medicine, a comprehensive health care system used for over 3,000 years in China and throughout the world today.

Chinese Herbs are effective and safe when prescribed by a well-trained herbal practitioner and taken properly. The herbs are a strong but gentle medicine that reduces the potential for side effects that many pharmaceuticals can cause. 100% of our herbal powders are from internationally certified "GMP" (Good Manufacturing Practices) factories that extensively test the raw herbs and finished products for quality and purity.

Questions and Answers

Are Chinese herbs safe?
Yes, Chinese herbs are effective and safe when prescribed by a well-trained herbal practitioner and taken properly. The herbs are a strong but gentle medicine that reduces the potential for side effects many drugs can cause. 100% of our herbal powders are from internationally certified "GMP" (Good Manufacturing Practices) factories who extensively test the raw herbs and finished products for quality and purity.

Is it safe to combine Chinese herbs with pharmaceutical drugs?

In the majority of cases, it is safe to combine western drugs with Chinese herbs. However, there are exceptions to this rule particularly in the case of drugs with narrow therapeutic margins, such as Coumadin. These drugs have a small therapeutic range that can easily be affected by changes in body chemistry. In this case, the introduction of Chinese herbs will affect the dosing of the drug. Bring a list of your pharmaceuticals and supplements to ensure that there are no adverse interactions with the herbs. Your practitioner knows what herbs to stay away from with certain drugs if any are prescribed in rare cases.

How do I take powder herbs?

Boil water. Place water in a cup then add the prescribed number of scoops of herbs. Stir to dissolve and drink.

You may experiment with the amount of water you use to dissolve the powders. Some prefer using a small amount (about 1/2 inch of water in your cup) and taking the herbs like a shot. Others prefer diluting the herbs in a full cup of water.

If drinking the herbs is too difficult, you may add a little honey to the powdered herbs to create honey pills. Be sure to make only one dose at a time. It is more beneficial to drink them, but the honey pills are fine if it makes taking the herbs easier.

When do I take my herbs?

Take your herbs two times per day between meals. For example, if you eat breakfast at 8:00 AM, lunch at 12:00 PM, and dinner at 6:00 PM you would take your herbs around 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Is it OK to add sweetener or other flavors to my herbs?

It is OK to add a small amount of honey or brown sugar to your herbs. Please do not mix your herbs with coffee, tea, milk, lemon juice or other liquids - doing so alters the function of the herbs.

Can I share my herbs with someone who has a similar health concern?

No. Chinese herbal formulas are designed specifically for your overall condition, not specific symptoms. Although you may know someone with similar symptoms, the herbal formula that is right for you may not be right for them.
